Description
Soft, fluffy, and dipped in a sweet glaze, these homemade donuts taste just like the bakery but are easy enough to make in your own kitchen. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet treat any time of day.
Ingredients
For the Donuts:
2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
¾ cup warm milk (110°F)
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
1 egg, room temperature
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (plus more for rolling)
½ tsp salt
Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
For the Glaze:
2 cups powdered sugar
¼ cup milk (more as needed for consistency)
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Activate Yeast
In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tbsp sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Make the Dough
Stir in remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, flour, and salt.
Knead until dough is smooth and elastic (5–7 minutes).
First Rise
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape Donuts
Roll dough on a floured surface to about ½-inch thickness.
Cut out donuts with a round cutter and a small cutter for the hole.
Fry Donuts
Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F.
Fry donuts 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
Remove and drain on paper towels.
Make the Glaze
In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
Glaze the Donuts
Dip warm donuts into glaze, flipping to coat. Place on a rack to set.
